ROTHO Ceramics is the professional pottery pursuit of Rose Thorn Woodard. They have been practicing fine arts since 2007, and dove into the medium of clay in 2019.

Sharing my passions with others has always been a rewarding experience, and for the past 11 years I’ve been doing it within the specialty coffee community. Six years ago, however, I found myself faced with a strong desire for more creative control, but I never had the capital or desire to own a coffee company of my own. I knew what I really wanted to focus on working towards was reigniting my love of visual arts, which at that point had taken a back seat to my coffee career. Having a very small amount of experience working with clay, the first thing I gravitated towards was taking a three week wheel throwing and hand building crash course to see if there was a reason I felt drawn to ceramic art. When those 3 weeks were done there was no doubt that this was the right path for me.

I love that the art I make nowadays is functional. Watching others delight in my little creations and use them over and over again brings me so much joy. There is something magical about making functional ceramic ware. I leave behind impressions of my actual hands on every piece I make, which interact with the user, connecting us no matter where we are physically.

My designs are meant to be full of humor and a little crass, which I hope can further connect people with a shared chuckle or maybe spark a deeper conversation.
